SAN ANGELO, Texas –
DeeshanaLynn Tafiti is on a plane heading back to her hometown of Kalaheo, Hawaii right now and the Angelo State softball player will have some good news waiting for her. The senior second baseman was named to the 2012 Daktronics All-America Third Team for her performance on the diamond for the Rambelles.
“There is no doubt she had an All-America type year,” Angelo State head coach
Travis Scott said. “For her to set the single-season RBI record and hit nearly 20 home runs this season speaks for itself. She's very deserving of the honor.”
Tafiti hit .364 this season with a team-best 19 home runs and a .765 slugging percentage during her senior season. She recorded 21 multiple-RBI games including eight with four or more. Tafiti also had four games with multiple home runs which helps explain why she's Angelo State's single-season RBI record holder. She finished the season with 76 runs batted breaking
Kacie Easley's mark of 69 set in 2010.
“She was a great player and an even better person,” Scott said. “It was fun seeing her grow these past two seasons and Angelo State is really going to miss her.”
