SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State track & field teams will be competing in the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships starting on Thursday in Commerce, Texas. The No. 18 Rambelles will seek their fourth-straight conference title.
Two Ramebelles will enter as defending champions with Kelsey Coffman (pole vault) and Theresa Sue (400-meter hurdles).
Coffman is currently No. 2 in pole vault on the LSC list behind teammate Summer Sutherland. Sue on the other hand is not only ranked No. 1 in the 400-meter hurdles but also the long jump.
The two defending champs have help from thrower Kimberly Williams. The Roby native is currently No. 1 in both the javelin and shot put. Williams won the 2010 LSC shot put title.
The women's throws look to score big points as Jayda Spencer is also the top ranked discus thrower. Her personal-best throw of 157'-3” (47.92m) came in Lubbock earlier this season.
The No. 10 Rams will be after their 11th LSC title and first since 1992. The men finished second last year to Abilene Christian.
Isidro Garcia is the defending 400-meter champion and is currently ranked No. 1 in the LSC and No. 10 in NCAA Division II.
Jacob McDonald has the opportunity to excel in two different events. He currently leads the LSC in both the javelin and pole vault. His best throw in the javelin this season is 215'-8” (65.73m) and his season best in pole vault is 16'-1.25” (4.91m). McDonald finished third in both the javelin and pole vault last season.
All-American Austin Slone will look for big points in the triple jump. He is the top triple jumper in the LSC this season and has a season-best mark of 50'-5.50” (15.38m).
The men's 4x400-meter relay is ranked first in the LSC and No. 2 in NCAA Division II.
Other Rams and Rambelles with chances to score big points include Emeline Crutcher (5,000-meter), Kati Holly (high jump), Jaylen Rodgers (800-meter), Brendon West (400-meter).
