SAN ANGELO, Texas – Doug Snover is the first Academic All-American in the history of Angelo State baseball.
Snover, a senior from Tempe, Ariz., earned that honor after being named to the
2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Baseball Third-Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
“It's impressive because we've had tons of great players who were also great students,” ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. “He is a tremendous student and played really well for our team this season. I'm really proud of him and this is a great way for him to end his college career.”
A year after missing the entire season because of a broken collarbone, Snover started all 57 games for the Rams in 2012. He finished with a .299 batting average, including 41 singles, 13 doubles, three home runs and a triple. He also stole 23 bases, scored 45 runs and drove in 32 runs.
“This year was a great opportunity for me to play baseball and continue working on my degree," Snover said. "I'm really happy with how everything worked out. It was a tremendous season for our team and I had a great time. I consider it a privilege for me to come here and play with great guys and for coach Brooks. I really enjoyed continuing to play the game that I love.”
A business management major at ASU, Snover graduated this spring with a 3.94 GPA. He began his collegiate playing career at Gateway Community College where he was a second-team All-American as a sophomore and a distinguished academic all-american as a freshman and sophomore. Snover is interning this summer with a construction company in Arizona and will return to Arizona State University in the fall to complete a degree that he started before coming to Angelo State.
Snover also earned Lone Star Conference All-Academic honors this season. Mitch Wolfe, a designated hitter from Eastern New Mexico, is the only other LSC player on the team.
