Five Rambelles Named to South Central Region Team

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Five Angelo State softball players were named to the 2012 Daktronics Softball South Central Region Team on Tuesday including two first-team and three second-team selections. Claire Molina and DeeshanaLynn Tafiti garnered first-team honors for the Rambelles, while Elsamartina Apo, Kacie Easley and Morgan Spearman were named to the second team, respectively.

Molina was one of three first-team pitchers selected. The senior lefty boasts a 26-4 record this season which is the most wins in the Lone Star Conference. In 185.0 innings of work, Molina has 167 strikeouts and a 2.46 earned run average. In 28 starts, Molina has 16 complete games and two shutouts to her credit. The other two first-team pitchers recognized were Jackie Bishop of Missouri Western State and Kayla Jackson of Arkansas-Monticello.

Tafiti rounds out Angelo State's first-team selection. The second baseman is hitting .370 this season with a team-best 18 home runs and a .733 slugging percentage.  She has 20 multiple-RBI games including nine with four or more. This is why the senior leads the team in runs batted in at 74 which is a single-season ASU record.

Apo led the Lone Star Conference in batting average and was recognized as the LSC Player of the Year for her efforts on April 26. The accolades continue for the senior, as she was named to the Daktronics Second Team as a third baseman. Apo is currently hitting .435 and leads the team in on-base percentage (.559) and walks (40).

Easley is making her second appearance on the Daktronics South Central Region Team after being selected as a freshman in 2010. The Temple native has a .412 average with 51 RBIs, 13 doubles, 10 home runs and two triples this season. Behind the dish, the catcher has thrown on 10 runners trying to steal including the nation's steals leader, Bailey Vrazel of Texas Woman's.

Spearman was the final Rambelle recognize. The Kennedale native is hitting .375 this season and currently has an 11-game hitting streak. The sophomore outfielder has a team-best 15 doubles this season and at one point reached base safely in 30-consectuive contests.

The No. 8 Rambelles are back in action May 11-12 against Central Oklahoma in the NCAA Division II South Central Super Regional. First pitch for Friday's game will be at 7 p.m. at the ASU Softball Complex.
