Cohen and Rittenberry Tabbed with LSC Scholar-Athlete Award

A total of 20 student-athletes were honored by the league

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Angelo State's Zach Cohen and Cathryn Rittenberry were honored with the 2011-2012 Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award on Thursday.

The duo was two of 20 that were honored by the LSC. The student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership. To be eligible for consideration student-athletes must have participated in at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.

Cohen, who was also named the LSC's Academic Baseball Player of the Year, helped lead the Rams to a 40-17 record and back to the NCAA Division II tournament. The senior from Houston started the final 49 games of the season at short stop after coming back from an injury that sidelined him for the first eight games. He finished the year with 39 hits, 24 RBI and eight doubles.  

Rittenberry is the two-time LSC Track & Field Academic Athlete of the Year. She earned all-conference honors for scoring 17 points. She qualified for her first NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet in the heptathlon. She set a personal best in the heptathlon with a score of 4,996 points. Rittenberry finished with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and majored in integrated professional accountancy.
