ANGELO STATE SOCCER

SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State soccer team was dominant on both ends of the field in its scrimmage against Western Texas College on Sunday at the ASU Soccer Field.

The Rambelles put continuous pressure on the Lady Westerners goal and created a relaxing night for goalkeepers Danielle Edwards and Natalie Nielsen with strong defensive work that didn't allow more than a handful of remote scoring opportunities. Kayla Gregory, Hanna Horeis and Lauren Carnes led the offensive charge.

“I thought the highlight was our defending even though we scored a lot of goals,” ASU head coach Travis McCorkle said. “I think we gave them only one-half chance and that was phenomenal to see from our defense. The midfield did a good job of keeping the ball moving and is something we've been working on in practice. We are creating a lot of great chances but I think we have the potential to do a lot more. I think we have done a really great job in these first two scrimmages.”

The Rambelles will host Hardin-Simmons at 11 a.m. on Friday in their last scrimmage of the preseason.

ASU, which has advanced to the postseason the past two years, is now 10 days away from traveling to Odessa to face Texas-Permian Basin in the 2012 season-opener at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30. The Rambelles open their home schedule at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 against New Mexico Highlands.
