SAN ANGELO – Abby Bobo fired a career-best 71 on the first day of the Concho River Classic to go into the final round in second place at the par-72 Bentwood Country Club.
Bobo, a sophomore from Wichita Falls, had a previous best of 77 that she shot at last year's Lone Star Conference tournament and said that her best practice round at Bentwood had been a 73. Bobo birdied five holes on the day, including closing out her round with birdies on 16 and 18.
“I just hit so many greens and was striking the ball really solid,” said Bobo, who shot a 36 on the front nine and a 35 on the back. “I wanted to come out and perform well for everyone and show them that we are good. I think we did that.”
