Rambelle Goalkeeper Earns LSC Defensive Player of the Week

Danielle Edwards
SAN ANGELO – Danielle Edwards has been named the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Angelo State soccer team to two wins last week.

Edwards, a senior goalkeeping product from San Angelo Lake View HS, allowed only one goal as the Rambelles started the season with a 2-0 record for the first time since 2007. Edwards recorded three saves for ASU which opened with a road-win at Texas-Permian Basin before taking a 2-1 double overtime win at home against New Mexico Highlands.

“Dani is doing a great job of keeping everything simple,” ASU head coach Travis McCorkle said. “She is not a complex goalkeeper. Dani is a very hard worker who does a great job of communicating with her defense. I think that she is making limited mistakes because she's not out there trying to complicate the game of soccer. She is making tons of good decisions.”

Angelo State, which is the only undefeated LSC team through the first weekend, has outshot its first two opponents 40-6 through the first 199 minutes of play this season.

“The other 10 players in front of her are doing a great job not letting the other team get good shots at her,” McCorkle said. “Even our forwards are coming back to help defensively to limit our opponents.”

This is the first LSC award for Edwards who appeared in three games at the end of last season.
