Angelo State Belles vs. TWU Gallery
SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game of the season with a 61-39 Lone Star Conference loss to Texas Woman's on Saturday afternoon at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.
The Belles (6-7, 3-4 LSC) struggled from the beginning against the Pioneers (5-9, 3-5 LSC), falling behind 19-4 in the first half after opening with the game's first basket. ASU would go into halftime with a 28-16 deficit and went on a 10-2 run to start the second half to trim the lead, but TWU withstood the Belles' response and surged ahead for good with a 14-2 run of its own. The Belles are now 2-3 at home this season.
Leah LeMaire led the Belles with 10 points, while
Haylee Oliver scored nine and
Lauren Holt had a team-leading nine rebounds and added six points.
Morgan Youngblood added two blocks, three assists and four points to the ASU effort.
Angelo State finished the game shooting 26.7 percent from the floor and 18.2 percent on 3-pointers (2 of 11). The Belles also committed 17 turnovers compared to TWU's nine turnovers in the game.
Rachel Schlosser led the Pioneers with 14 points with Tabbatha Thurmond added 10 points and five rebounds. Toree Mason went for nine points and four rebounds, while Taylor Swift added eight points and Rebekah Cluley seven. TWU shot 40 percent from the field and also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line.
The Belles return to action at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Kingsville in the Junell Center and will play their rematch against TWU on Feb. 23 in Denton. ASU is now 28-20 all-time against the Pioneers.
