SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's track and field team is prepared for its second meet of the season at the Masked Rider Invitational in Lubbock on Friday and Saturday.
The first week of competition for the Rambelles was a successful one.
Kearah Danville automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships and was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association Division II National Female Athlete of the Week as well as Lone Star Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Danville will focus this week on the long jump and high jump.
Jaylen Rodgers, the LSC Track Athlete of the Week, and
Theresa Sue hit NCAA Division II provisional marks in the 800m and long jump, respectively. Rodgers ran 2:15.73 after the altitude conversion and Sue jumped 18'-11.25” (5.77m) to win their respective events.
Rodgeres is entered in the 800m and triple jump this week while Sue will run the 200m and 55-meter hurdles.
Jasmine Ambowode,
Lexi Brooks,
Brittany Clarke and
Kati Holly will also return to action after competing last weekend.
Holly will jump in the high jump while Clarke will compete in the long jump and triple jump. Brooks has a lane in the 400-meter race. Ambowode will run the 55-meter hurdles and work on the high jump, long jump and triple jump.
Holly placed second in the high jump a week ago while Ambowode was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles.
A larger group will open their season this week.
Alyssa Ankrom (800m),
Jessica Boudreau (mile, 3000m),
Annifer Flores (mile, 3000m),
Katy Williams (mile, 3000m) will open up the distance season.
Kinsey Coppedge (55m, 200m), Keshawna Fister (55m, 600y),
Chelsea Moore (600y) are scheduled in the shorter races.
Kimberly Williams (shot put) will throw the shot for the first time this season.
Multi-event athlete
Jordan Gray is entered in the 55m hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot put.
Friday's events will begin at 5 p.m. for field events and 6 p.m. on the track. Action begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the triple jump and the 55-meter hurdles at 11 a.m.
