Belles Welcome Rival Abilene Christian

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will host LSC rival Abilene Christian for potentially the final time on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

These two teams have played each other every season since 1975-1976. Abilene Christian took the first two meetings before the Belles won during the 1976-1977 season. The Wildcats hold the series lead at 49-33.

The Belles are 7-8 overall and 4-5 in LSC play. A three-game losing streak was broke after beating Texas A&M-Kingsville, 65-51. Lauren Holt and Haylee Oliver both recorded double-doubles in what was Sally Walling Brooks 399th career victory.



The first try at 400 was stopped by Incarnate Word. The Cardinals ended the game on a 19-4 run to put the Belles away. Morgan Youngblood scored a season-high 10 points in the loss. ASU is limiting teams to 61.5 points per game which is second in the LSC.

Walling Brooks is 16-8 as coach of the Belles against Abilene Christian. The Belles are an impressive 10-2 under Walling Brooks at home against ACU. Angelo State has won seven-straight games in Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

Oliver is ASU's leading scorer (12.7) and rebounder (9.1) on the season. She ranks in the top 10 in points (6th), rebounds (4th) and assists (6th).  The sophomore has recorded six double-doubles on the season.

Holt and Leah LeMaire are averaging 11.9 and 11.2 point per game this season. Holt has scored double figures in nine games this season while LeMaire is averaging 4.1 points per game higher than last season.

The Wildcats have four players scoring double figures on the season. Renata Marquez is ACU's leading scorer at 13.1 points per game.  Abilene Christian averages 77.3 points per game and outscores opponents by 16 points a game. The Wildcats lead the LSC in scoring offense and scoring margin.
