CANYON, Texas – The Angelo State softball team defeated Incarante Word 6-4 in the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship and will advance to the semi-finals played tomorrow at 12 p.m.
The Rambelles (35-15) won their 22nd game away from the ASU Softball Complex with a five-run fourth inning that was highlighted by
Kacie Easley's 41
st career home run.
Incarnate Word (30-24) had the 2012 LSC Pitcher of the Year, Briana Sanchez, on the mound and a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Carly Peters, who had already doubled off Sanchez in the second and scored, singled up the middle to lead off the inning.
Rachel Moore stepped to the plate right after her and doubled to left field to put runners at second and third.
ASU would take the lead on a
Darian Dunn double to left field that scored both Peters and Moore. The freshman would get caught in a run down for the first out of the inning after rounding second base.
The Rambelles, up 3-2 with two outs, kept the inning alive with a double by
Amanda Wilhelm and a walk by
Ambra Hill.
Easley stepped to the plate and took a shot to right center for her eighth home run of the season and a 6-2 advantage for ASU after four innings. Easley finished the day going two-of-three with three RBI's.
Mary Kate McKay came in to relieve
Sandra Serna and pitched five innings. The Cardinals would close the gap to 6-4 in the top of the fifth inning with a Monica Acuna home run.
McKay would settle down after it getting two ground outs. She held the Cardinals scoreless over the last two innings of the game. The win is the 13
th of the season for the junior.
The Rambelles will play the winner of West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian at 12 p.m. tomorrow in the semi-final round of the LSC Softball Championships.
