The GameThe Angelo State football team will play for the LSC Playoff Championship on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. against Texas A&M-Commerce at Memorial Stadium in Commerce, Texas. The game will be carried on KWFR 101.9FM The Fire with Jeremy Bryant (play-by-play) and Daniel Ramirez (color analyst) on the call.Â
Texas A&M-CommerceThe Lions are 8-2 this season and won the Lone Star Conference regular season title with a 6-1 record. TAMUC is 5-0 home this season and have won seven of their last eight games. ASU alum Colby Carthel is 1-1 against the Rams and 15-7 all-time as a head coach.Â
The SeriesThe Rams lead the all-time series 27-15-2 and are 10-9-1 in Commerce. The Rams had won the last five meetings prior to October 11. The last four TAMUC wins (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013) have come by a combined 15 points. Â
October 11A 32-yard field goal just missed to the right as time expired as the Angelo State football team lost 41-40 to Texas A&M-Commerce in the first meeting on October 11. Texas A&M-Commerce scored on a 10-yard run by Richard Cooper to take its second lead of the game with 2:04 to go in the fourth quarter. The Rams drove down to the Lions 30-yard line and faced a fourth and four.
Peter Marquez got another chance at a field goal after a defensive offside seconds later but the kick went wide right.
RematchSaturday's rematch with Texas A&M-Commerce will mark the sixth time since 1964 that ASU will play a team twice in the same season. The first time it happened was in 1975 against Sul Ross State with the other four being in 1978 (Sam Houston State), 1979 (Texas A&M-Kingsville), 1991 (ACU), 1994 (Portland State) and 2014 (Midwestern State).Â
Receiving Votes For the third-straight week, ASU received votes in the AFCA poll. The Rams now have 18 votes which is the most this season. Texas A&M-Commerce, the only team ranked in the top 25 from the LSC sits at No. 24.Â
Regional Poll The Rams jumped up two spots to No. 8  ahead of Chadron State and Ashland in the NCAA Division II Super Region Four poll. ASU's opponent this week, Texas A&M-Commerce, is one spot ahead at No. 7. The top six teams in the region will receive bids to the NCAA Division II playoffs.  Earned access will be granted to one team if a conference does not have a school in the top six but is in the top eight of the rankings.
LSC Player of the Week ... AgainKyle Washington was named LSC Player of the Week for the third time after having a hand in all six of the Rams touchdowns in the 41-36 win over Midwestern State to propel ASU to the LSC Playoff Championship game. The junior threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns on 14-of-28 passing while gaining 184 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. He averaged 15.3 yards per carry in the win. Washington is now No. 4 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the LSC in total offense averaging 353.6 yards per game.
Winning SeasonThe Rams moved to 7-2 on the season and are in the midst of the program's 31st winning season since 1964. The seven victories are the most since 2005. ASU won the LSC South Division in 2000 but the last times the Rams won a conference championship was in 1987.Â
Quick ScoresThe Rams offense wasted little time scoring against Midwestern State on Saturday. Every scoring drive for ASU was less than four plays. Five of the six drives were under one minutes and the longest last just one minute and 34 second. Three of the touchdowns (69, 59, 68) were over 50-yards and five of the six touchdowns scored were over 20-yards.Â
Record BreakerKyle Washington is close to adding his name to a couple ASU records. The junior quarterback has 25 passing touchdowns which is two away from Josh Neiswander's single-season record of 27. It is the most passing touchdowns since Neiswander threw 25 in 2009. The 25 touchdowns is currently the 17th most in NCAA Division II. He is on pace (63.3-percent) to set the ASU record for completion percentage in a single season which is 62.4 held by Neiswander. Washington has already broke the individual total offense record with 3,182 yard currently he set last season.Â
Defensive TakeawaysThe Rams picked off a pass and recovered a fumble to bring their season total to 23 takeaways. The 15 interceptions is the most in a season since 2010. The interception led to a touchdown and ASU has now scored 115 points off the 23 turnovers this season.Â
Road GamesThe Rams are 3-0 in road games with wins over Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State. ASU has won its last five games on the road dating back to 2013. The Rams are 11-7 under head coach

Offensive RecordThe Ram offense is looking to break a couple of records on Saturday. ASU is on pace to average 479.3 yards per game which would break the single-season game average of 457.9 set last season. The offense could also break the record for points scored in a season in just 10 games. ASU has scored 382 points and scored 51 touchdowns this year. The 1989 Rams, hold the record for touchdowns in a season (51) and points scored (398) in 11 games. ASU is also on pace to break the points scored per game at 42.4 with the 1989 team holding the record at 36.2. Â
TacklesRush Seaver, the No. 3 tackler in NCAA Division II at 14.1 tackles per game, recorded his seventh double-digit tackle game of the season. His 127 total tackles is the most in a single season since James Williamson had 132 in 2003.Â
Ranked OpponentsThe No. 24 Texas A&M-Commerce Lions will be the second-ranked opponent the Rams will face this season and the second on the road this season. Midwestern State was ranked No. 16 when the Rams faced them in Wichita Falls.Â
StreakingKyle Washington extended his streak of throwing a touchdown pass in consecutive game to 16. The Humble native added four passing touchdowns and now has 25 TD's on the season and 49 in his career. He has thrown a TD pass in 21 of the 27 games he has played in during his career.Â
Career Top 10Â Kyle Washington has been etching his name in the ASU record books. The junior became the first ASU player in history to pass for over 2,000 and rush for over 1,000 in a single season last year and is now the only player in ASU history to be in the top 10 in both career passing yards (7th) and career rushing yards (6th). He is 131 rushing yards away from accomplishing the 2,000 & 1,000 yard barriers again. The quarterback is also on pace to break the ASU record for total offense record in a season of 298.3 held by Josh Neiswander. The Humble native is currently averaging 341.2 yards per game.
Receiving MilestoneDakarai Pecikonis continued his climb on the ASU all-time career receiving list. The senior wide receiver moved closer to the ASU all-time career receiving yards mark with 2,665 yards. He is 46 yards from moving into No. 2 all-time ahead of Darron Johnson and just 133 yards from passing Don Burrell for the top spot. Â
Career SacksClayton Callicutt has quietly moved up the ASU career sack list. The junior has 6.5 sacks this season and now has 18.5 for his career as a Ram. Callicutt is currently No. 4 on the ASU all-time career sacks. The three names in front of him are Dane Krager (31), Greg Collins (26.5) and
Pierce Holt (21.5). The junior is currently No. 15 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in LSC in tackles for loss with 1.94 per game.Â
No. 1 Kickoff ReturnsThe Rams are leading NCAA Division II by averaging 27.88 yards per kick return this season. ASU has had five games of at least 100 return yards.
Anthony Yancy is No. 5 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the LSC at 32.7 yards per return. He is one of 10 players in NCAA Division II with two kickoff return touchdowns. Â

ESPN Top 10 PlaysDakarai Pecikonis made an acrobatic catch in the third quarter. The 29-yard reception made it all the way to No. 5 on ESPN Sportscenter Top 10 Plays. It is the second time in two years the Rams have been showcased on Sportscenter. Last season,
Jermie Calhoun scored a touchdown after leaping over a Black Hills State defender that went all the way to No. 1 before Peyton Manning threw seven touchdowns in a single game.Â
New Defensive CoordinatorGirsch spent the last 17 years coaching at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, before being hired by Wagner. He has spent the last six years as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach of the Fighting Bees. He was named a MSFA Midwest League Assistant Coach of the Year in 2008. He has coached five All-Americans and been a part of seven Mid-State Football Association Conference Championships. His defense has finished in the top 25 in scoring for the last five years highlights by a No. 2 finish in 2009 and a No. 5 finish in 2011.
Head CoachWill Wagner (Hardin-Simmons, '96) will begin his fourth season as head coach of the Rams. He is 22-20 in his fourth season at the helm of the Rams. The Odessa native helped Northwest Missouri State win three national championships as an assistant head coach and defensive backs coach.
The ProgramAngelo State won the NAIA National Championship in 1978 and has won three Lone Star Conference Championships (1978, 1984, 1987). The Rams have seen five NCAA D-II playoff appearances and produced 57 All-Americans. Angelo State has sent 11 student-athletes on to successful NFL careers, including
Pierce Holt, who earned two Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49ers in 1988 and 1989. He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was inducted into the NCAA Division II Football Hall of Fame in 2000. Legendary Baylor head coach Grant Teaff coached at ASU, and has been inducted into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame with Holt and former Rams' offensive lineman Rodney Cason.
