CANYON – The No. 14/10-ranked Angelo State Rams jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead and never looked back in earning an 88-60 Lone Star Conference win over West Texas A&M on Wednesday at the First United Bank Center.
The Rams (14-1, 2-0 LSC) extended their winning streak to nine games which is one off of the program record the team established last season to begin the year, the Buffs (10-6, 1-2 LSC) moved to 8-2 at home with the loss. ASU, which had five players score in double-figures and shot 55.4 percent from the field, is now 4-1 away from San Angelo and were only two points away from matching their national leading scoring margin average of 30.3 points per game.

Tommy Woolridge playing a great game along with
Omari Gudul,
Brentine Taylor,
DeQuavious Wagner and
Thomas Brandsma having some great hustle plays. When we have support from our bench like we did tonight we are a really good team."
Chris Jones led the Rams with 18 points and added five rebounds and two assists, while
Demario Mayfield added 17 points and five rebounds. Woolridge went 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and finished the game with a season-high 14 points, while
Raijon Kelly added 11 points and six rebounds and Gudul went for 10 points and led the Rams with seven rebounds off the bench. ASU owned a 33-15 advantage in scoring off the bench and a 38-22 advantage inside the paint.
ASU finished the game with a 42-27 rebounding advantage with Taylor grabbing five rebounds to go along with five points in the game. The Rams went 19-for-25 from the free-throw line and made seven 3-pointers.
Antjuan Ball led West Texas A&M with 14 points and added four rebounds, while Tez Dumars went for 11 points and had three rebounds. WT, which led the conference coming into the game in 3-point shooting, matched the Rams with seven 3-pointers with Ball and David Chavlovich each hitting two.
Mayfield led the Rams with 13 points on a 5 of 6 shooting performance in the first half, while Jones added 11 points and Kelly went for eight. The Rams shot 59.4 percent (19 of 32) from the field and hit 5 of 9 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes with Mayfield going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and
Tommy Woolridge hitting both of his 3-point attempts and finishing the first half with six points along with Gudul. ASU also had a 19-11 rebounding advantage and forced 10 WT turnovers, including grabbing six steals with Woolridge leading the way with three steals. ASU's 21 point halftime lead came after the team trailed 11-8 at the first media timeout. The Buffs had a six-point lead in the first half two minutes into the game, but the Rams would lead for 13 minutes of the opening half.
The Rams will return to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Eastern New Mexico at the Junell Center where they are 9-0 this season.Â
