SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's soccer team ended the 2015 season at No. 16 in the final NSCAA ranking announced on Tuesday.
The Belles finished the season with a 14-3-1 record and won the program's second Lone Star Conference Championship. ASU also hosted a NCAA Division II Regional for the first time in history. The season was provided the second most wins in school history and it was the first time ASU has made an appearance in the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons.
Angelo State shutout 11 opponents and set the program record for goals allowed in a season with only 10. The school record was also broken for consecutive shutouts with eight during conference play. The three losses is also the fewest in a season.
Haley Mendel, the Belles leading goal scorer, earned the program's second All-American honor and the first by the NSCAA. She was a third team honoree and scored 10 goals during the season. Sierra Anderson and Ashley Exford were NSCAA All-Region selections while Shantel Wittke joined Exford, Mendel and Anderson on the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-Region first team.
It is the first time ASU has appeared in the final NSCAA ranking.The Belles were the only Lone Star Conference school in the final ranking.
