SAN ANGELO – Angelo State's Maria Delgadillo and Lucie Maitrot were ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division II South Central Regional Rankings in singles announced on Thursday.
Degadillo was ranked No. 14 in the region while Maitrot is a few spots back at No. 18. Of the 20 players in the region, 11 are in the Lone Star Conference. Degadillo and Maitrot are a part of Angelo State's first tennis team since 1987.
"It is exciting to see a couple of Belles make the rankings in singles," Angelo State women's tennis coach Chris Bizot said. "We feel Maria and Lucie are both deserving of this recognition after having stellar fall results. Hopefully this will continue to motivate us this offseason and into the spring."
Degadilllo went 6-2 overall in tournament play during the fall. She went 2-1 with a win over Division I Stephen F Austin to open the year and won three straight at the St. Mary's Invitational. She concluded the fall at 1-1 in a weather shortened ITA Regional tournament.
Matriot went 5-4 on during the fall with regional wins over St. Mary's and UTPB. She started the year going 2-1 at the Tyler Junior College tournament winning her first two matches of her ASU career. She won her final match of the St. Mary's Invitational in a tough draw and wrapped up the fall going 2-1 at the ITA Regional.
The Belles will play their home opener at the ASU Tennis Courts on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m.
