SAN ANGELO – The No. 17 Angelo State softball team will host South Central Regional rival No. 22 Lubbock Christian in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 2 starting at 2 p.m. at Mayer Field.
The Rambelles are 17-1 on the season with a .353 team batting average and a 1.84 ERA. Opponents are being held to a .179 average and have only scored 77 runs this season. ASU has scored 144 runs this season with 65 extra base hits.
Lubbock Christian enters the series with a 16-2 record overall. The Chaps advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional last year and will host ASU on March 13. LCU hits .381 as a team and holds a 2.09 ERA.
ASU's pitching staff has thrown six shutouts and 10 complete games on the season. Kenedy Urabny is 6-0 on the year with a team-low 1.03 ERA. She has four complete games and two shutouts. She has held teams to 27 hits and only eight runs in 40.2 innings pitched. Teams are limited to a .176 batting average and she has struck out 32 on the season.
Brandy Marlett is 7-1 with a 2.12 ERA this season. The junior leads the LSC with 73 strikeouts in 53.0 innings pitched. She has five complete games and only allowed 20 runs on 31 hits. The Henderson, Nevada, native holds opponents to a .158 batting average.
Morgan Hill has a 2.62 ERA with a perfect 4-0 record. She has given up only nine runs on 19 hits. The junior has struck out 21 in 21.1 innings pitched this season.
The Rambelles are hitting over .400 to start the season led by Courtney Barnhill, Bailey Wallace and Danae Bina.
Barnhill is coming off a weekend where she recorded 10 RBI including six in the first game against Western New Mexico. She leads ASU with a .442 average and on a current five-game hit streak. The freshman has reached base safely in 16 straight games and is hitting .526 with runners in scoring position. She leads the team in slugging percentage (.827), runs scored (18) and on-base percentage (.540).
Wallace has reached base safely in 17 consecutive games this season. She is second on the team with a .413 average with 19 hits and two doubles. The sophomore has 10 RBI and is one of six players with double digits in the category. She has the most hit-by-pitches with eight.
Bina has hit .410 this season in her first season with Angelo State. She is second on the team in runs scored with 17 and has 16 hits on the year. The Kansas native is second on the team with five doubles and 10 walks. Bina has hit .500 with runners in scoring position and .429 with two outs. She is also tied for the team lead with eight stolen bases.
Karina Rocha and Madison Greenwell are hitting .375 and .370, respectively. Rocha has 15 hits, one double, one triple and five home runs. She also scored 13 runs and driven in 11 RBI. She is second on the team with a .825 slugging percentage and 11 walks. Greenwell is second on the team with 20 hits. She has recorded two doubles and three triples as well.
Taegan Kirk and Urbany have produced this season with 18 and 19 hits, respectively. The duo has each driven in 16 RBI on the season. Kirk has four doubles and three home runs while Urbany is the team leader with six double and tied for the team lead with five home runs. She has also scored 14 runs.
Brooke Mangold has raised her average to .304 while scoring eight runs. She has seven hits and two doubles on the season. She is also tied for the team lead with eight stolen bases.
Amanda Ramage, Katlyn Herzog, Kelly Johnson and Megan Gordon have contributed off the bench. Ramage is hitting .385 in 13 plate appearances with five hits. Herzog and a .318 average with seven hits one double, one triple and two home runs. The senior has also driven in nine RBI Johnson has seven hits with four being for extra bases. The senior has scored driven in nine runs and crossed the plate six times. Heather Reatherford has added six runs in pinch running opportunities.
The Rambelles will be televised on RamTV on Suddenlink Channel 106 and the second game will be carried locally on 1260AM KKSA.
