SAN ANGELO – Banners were hung and rings distributed. Now, for nine returners and five newcomers, it's time to defend.

Angelo State enters the 2013 volleyball season (its 38th in program history) as the defending Lone Star Conference champions and NCAA Division II South Central finalist.

"The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the development of our younger players," said ASU head coach Chuck Waddington, who enters his sixth season with a 118-52 record and is the reigning LSC Coach of the Year. "We have a strong mix of returners and new players who are coming in. The talent is there with the mix of players with experience in the program and new players to compete for the Lone Star Conference and regional championship. It's going to be a fun year to see where this group can take us."

The 29-match Angelo State schedule (regular season) is divided between 14 home matches and 15 matches on the road. The Belles will play 16 conference matches, 23 matches in Texas, four matches in Denver, Colo. along with conference matches in Oklahoma and New Mexico. The regional tournament will be hosted by the top regionally ranked South Central team, while all teams enter the season eyeing a trip to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the NCAA DII Elite Eight.
