SAN ANGELO – Zoey Hanrahan recorded a career-high with 15 kills and added four blocks, while
Daeleigh Castile and
Brianna Sotello each had 13 kills to help lead Angelo State to its fifth straight Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship final appearance with a 3-1 win over Cameron on Friday in the semifinals of the tournament at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.
Shelby Wilt added a match-high 27 digs and
Katie MacLeay provided 20 digs for the Belles (21-7) who bounced back from dropping the opening set to the Aggies to take the final three sets in the four-set win. ASU finished the match with an 89-69 dig advantage over CU which ended its season with a 15-15 record.
The Belles advance to the LSC Championship finals where they will play Tarleton State which won a five-set match over West Texas A&M on Friday.Â
"Our team had a lot of balance tonight," ASU head coach
Chuck Waddington said. "Zoey and Daeleigh really led the way for us offensively. They had big swings in big moments. Our defense picked up in the second set and we worked hard to set both of them in transition. Shelby and Katie seemed like they dug everything and our blocking as a whole really picked up. We got tooled a lot in set one and really showed a lot more discipline with our hands."
Hanrahan, who had previously record a career-high with 14 kills earlier this season against Midwestern State, set her new mark with 15 kills by hitting .520 in the match. Castile hit .500 on 22 attacks and both hitters committed only two errors in the entire match.
Mallory Blauser and
Abbie Lynn each had 10 kills to give the Belles five players with double-digit kill performances against Cameron, while
Alexa Johnson supplied 57 assists and added 10 digs from the setter position. Castile contributed three blocks with Johnson and Sotello each having two blocks for the Belles who had a 7-6 block advantage in the match.
ASU finished the match with a .273 team attacking percentage, including hitting .516 in the fourth and final set.Â
